Jim Gaffigan: Cinco (2017)

I can’t quite put my finger on it but there seems to be something missing from Jim Gaffigan’s latest special. The affable comic goes over much of his go-to topics, from his homelife to his love of food to his own low energy, but there’s something dispassionate this time around. Maybe it’s that his material is getting repetitive and needs to be updated, but either way this isn’t as good as his other specials, which are typically consistently hilarious. Gaffigan himself is a compelling and relaxed performer, and his low-key approach is smooth and familiar, so it’s still worth watching even if it’s a bit on the tepid side.

Rating: ★★★ (out of 5)
