A staggering, satisfying foray into the singular universe of Perfume Genius, this latest album is even better than its predecessor, 2014’s “Too Bright.” Here, the performer embraces progress and rejects ambiguity, revelling in moving forward both with his lyrics and the composition of his music. A particular highlight is the hypnotic “Die 4 You,” which sounds like early Tricky-era trip-hop, with gorgeous, haunting lyrics and slow-groove sexuality permeating from beginning to end. The opener, “Otherside,” sets the tone for the entire album, starting off with piano balladry and thrillingly jumping forward to hard-rock, all within the space of less than three minutes.
