Make no mistake: This is a bad movie. But on the plus side, it’s the good kind of bad movie – it’s entertaining, fast-paced, and gleefully scary, even though it’s held back by its tame PG-13 rating. The characters are surprisingly likable (for the most part, if you can ignore the perpetually unlikable Joel David Moore, whose onscreen presence is never anything less than preposterously obnoxious), and while the story makes no damn sense, it doesn’t matter. This is all about the shark attacks and how over-the-top they can get, and director David R. Ellis completely delivers on that front. So grab a few beers and some smart-mouthed friends, and you’re guaranteed to have a good time with this one. This is everything you wanted “Sharknado” to be.
Rating: ★★★ (out of 5)
