Röyksopp – The Inevitable End (2014)

With its mix of electronica, house, ambient and synthpop, the Norwegian duo’s purported final full-length album is a delight from the moment it begins with the fascinating, robotic “Skulls.” Moving into the immediate, thunderous “Monument” (a collaboration with frequent guest star Robyn) as well as the heartbreaking, dreamy “Sordid Affair,” and later complimented by the mournful “Running to the Sea,” the album has a surprising, touching need for comfort and strength at its core, and manages to reveal new depths with each subsequent listening, gaining momentum and import with each new experience.
