Nelly Furtado – The Ride (2017)

After a five-year hiatus (following 2012’s underrated “The Spirit Indestructible”), Nelly Furtado returns here with a focused, newly re-energized vibe. A sort of combination of 2006’s “Loose,” which turned her into an unexpected pop star, and the aforementioned “Spirit Indestructible,” “The Ride” flows well from one song to another, with no two songs sounding alike. Nevertheless, the ballads (in particular the closer “Phoenix”) are disappointingly mellow and a little cloying, but getting there is a fantastic sonic experience.
